Fretilin PLANS TO SURRENDER Greater Sunrise to WOODSIDE

DILI: Fretilin says it is ready to negotiate with Australia and oil company Woodside on Greater Sunrise if it wins next year’s election Fretilin is even prepared to surrender the Greater Sunrise Oil-Field to Woodside

Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao has been fighting since 2007 to bring the Greater Sunrise pipeline to Timor-Leste, but Woodside company has been resisting Dili's insistence on having the pipeline drawing to Timor-Leste.

CNRT and most of AMP government have been resisting President of the Republic Jose Ramos-Horta and some NGOs call to involve Mari Alkatiri from Fretilin in the negotiation process. Ramos-Horta's call is interpreted as another pre-election maneuver to boost Fretilin's already low popularity ahead of the 2012 general elections.

There will not be or never be an Alkatiri's involvement in the negotiations of pipeline with Woodside to Timor-Leste. Mr Alferedeo Pires, the SE for Mineral Resources and his team are doing a pretty good job and we dont need anymore "cheap political negotiators" in the team. Mari may as well join the Woodside Team to negotiate with the government of Timor-Leste if he and Ramos-Horta wiseh so.

CNRT considered Greater Sunrise a big issue, and was committed to resolving it as a sovereign country.

The Fretilin under Alkatiri  made a failed attempt to bring the pipeline to Timor-Leste in the past, and suspended all border  negotiations until the next 50 years, which was considered the greater disaster in Timor's negotiations with its neighboring country.

The Gusmao Government have the most impressive capacity to negotiate with the Government of Australia and Woodside.
