MP Arao Noe de Jesus from the National Congress for the Timorese Reconstruction (CNRT) has rejected the contents of the recent report of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) saying Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao is an obstacle to democracy and national development in the country.

"We are concerned about the recent report of UNDP which states Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao is an obstacle to democracy and the development process in the country. In reality, when PM Gusmao started to govern this country, there was no indication that he engaged in abuse of power and engaged in act of crime which seem to violate human rights," MP de Jesus said.

MPs from CNRT Party called on the United Nations to learn about the existing laws in the country and they should not believe in rumors. CNRT will also release their joint report to respond to the UN report on the internet in order to help facilitate all the Timorese people to access it.

MP Inacio Moreira from Fretilin said the report of UNDP was made based on their observations and the reality of what is really happening in the country.

"The report of UNDP states that PM Gusmao is an obstacle to democratic development in the country, and they released the report based on their observations.

In my observation, the United Nations, since they came to Timor-Leste, made observations and wrote reports about the real situation of what has really happened in the country," MP Moreira said.
